The Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) is an influential, independent economic policy think-tank based in Lusaka, Zambia. Established in 1999 and rebranded in 2009, this non-profit organization focuses on promoting pro-poor, equitable trade and investment systems across Zambia and the wider Southern African region. Backed by a membership network of 16 local NGOs and various professionals, CTPD conducts evidence-based policy research, legal analysis, and community advocacy across specialized thematic desks, including trade, public finance, agriculture, and climate change. In current policy spaces, CTPD remains highly active in monitoring national economic developments and providing strategic feedback to the Zambian government. The center focuses heavily on extractive industry governance, advocating for stricter environmental safeguards in mining to protect rural communities, while simultaneously pushing for climate resilience funding in national budgeting. Through initiatives like the Young Professionals Network (YPN), CTPD also actively trains youth and lawmakers to participate meaningfully in national affairs, green energy transitions, and macroeconomic reforms.
