The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) is a Southern-led, global organization dedicated to building local capacity for economic policy research in developing countries. Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, PEP operates as a decentralized network that empowers researchers in the Global South to produce high-quality evidence. By using a distinct "learning-by-doing" methodology, the organization provides local teams with financial support, scientific mentoring, and policy-engagement training, ensuring that development strategies are shaped by local experts rather than external consultants. To date, PEP has supported over 350 projects across more than 60 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, training more than 1,250 local researchers. The organization places a heavy emphasis on inclusivity, with women making up over 50% of its researchers. Through its expertise in macro-micro economic simulations, impact evaluations, and community-based monitoring systems, PEP plays a critical role in shifting the global balance of knowledge and ensuring national policies directly address poverty, gender equity, and sustainable development.
