À propos

The Okwelians is a prominent Cameroonian "think-and-do tank" founded in February 2020 by attorney and social innovator Jacques Jonathan Nyemb. Based primarily in Douala, Cameroon, with networks extending into the global African diaspora, the non-profit organization is dedicated to promoting ethical leadership, social innovation, and inclusive governance across the region. The name itself is derived from the Duala verb “Okwele,” meaning “to learn,” which shapes the collective's vision of fostering a culture of humble, discerning, and civic-minded leadership. The organization translates its research into grass-roots impacts through twin operational tracks: The Lab and The Engagement Hub. While The Lab actively publishes institutional roadmaps, policy briefs, and economic proposals—such as their comprehensive "Green Paper" outlining structural and sustainable blueprints for Cameroonian territories—The Engagement Hub hosts community bootcamps, workshops, and youth leadership fellowships like the O'Teens Leadership Program and the Okwelians Fellowship for Young Cameroonian Leaders (OFYCL). Driven by its specialized investment arm, the Okwelians Venture Fund, the platform also injects strategic capital and mentorship directly into home-grown tech startups to foster a vibrant regional entrepreneurship ecosystem.
