About

The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) is an African-led, regional non-profit policy think tank established in 2010 to bridge the gap between scientific research and public policy. The organization is co-headquartered in Lilongwe, Malawi and Nairobi, Kenya, operating with a mission to institutionalize a culture of Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) across the continent. Rather than relying on external narratives, AFIDEP empowers African governments and regional bodies to translate, analyze, and synthesize robust data to inspire political commitment, guide resource allocation, and optimize development programs. The institute focuses its efforts on critical thematic pillars, including population dynamics and the demographic dividend, health and wellbeing, education, climate change, and gender equity. By working directly with parliaments, government ministries, and civil society, AFIDEP translates complex scientific findings into highly accessible, practical policy briefs and strategic frameworks. Through key initiatives like the Africa LEEPS Alliance, the organization plays a vital role in strengthening local institutional capacities and ensuring that African growth is driven by locally generated, sustainable solutions.
