Abstract
This report presents a comprehensive value chain analysis of the cocoa industry within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The study examines all activities from production to marketing, focusing on the main producers: Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It profiles the cocoa industry, assesses farm-level productivity and the productivity gap, and evaluates value-added operations and marketing channels. The analysis identifies strengths, challenges, and opportunities, highlighting the potential of the OECS's Fine and Flavoured Cocoa (FFC) beans in the global market, particularly within the tourism sector. The report proposes a six-year development model to establish an integrated cocoa growing-processing-marketing industry, recommending the creation of a centralized Cocoa Resource Technical Support Centre (CRTSC) to provide technical support, improve farming practices, and enhance processing capabilities to capture more value within the region.
